Recently, I read of a challenge to think of 5 things every day that you’re thankful for and to write them down. The author said that doing this will change our perspective by keeping us focused on the positive things in our lives. So in honor of Thanksgiving, here is my list:
- I’m thankful for my family – not all of which are blood relatives, but are, instead great friends that I’ve chosen to include as members of my family.
- I’m thankful for the “enoughs” of life – enough heat, enough food and water, enough shelter and enough clothing. So many are not so blessed.
- I’m thankful for the privilege of meaningful work, and for having the opportunity to impact lives of residents and staff in positive ways at the times when they need us the most.
- I’m thankful for the freedoms we enjoy here in America – the freedom of speech, the freedom of religion, the right to choose those who will govern us, the right to agree and disagree with one another, and all the other things that make our democracy so desirable.
- I’m thankful for the privilege of living in the greatest country, one that gives us almost unlimited opportunities to achieve success if we’re willing to use our God-given abilities, work hard and keep a positive attitude.
I challenge you to make a list also. You might find you have much more to be thankful for than you think. Happy Thanksgiving
